An unidentified shooter shot Mr. Burns in the previous episode. Mr. Smithers thinks he may have killed Burns when he was drunken. When it is determined that he is innocent, the police question a number of additional suspects before finding Simpson DNA evidence on Burns. When Mr. Burns awakens, all he can manage to utter is "Homer Simpson." Homer escapes after the police accuse him of being a murderer. Lisa looks into the hints on her own and unearths crucial information that exonerates Homer, but just then he is sighted at the hospital.
