A lot has been said about Marvel’s declining quality of late, both on this site and the wider fandom, but Phase Four has undoubtedly been a rocky ride. The TV side of this long-running juggernaut began with WandaVision and has since swung between tolerable and unimpressive, before sputtering to an end with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, a show promising to be a nice diversion from the ordinary; a quirky, fourth-wall breaking legal comedy. It is the sixth television series created by Marvel Studios in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and it shares continuity with the franchise's films. Where to watch She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

The Storyline of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

The origin story of She-Hulk involves Jennifer Walters' (Tatiana Maslany) cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), who took a significantly different path than in the comics. Bruce/Smart Hulk was also instrumental in preparing Jen to deal with her new talents. After all, he's experienced losing control of a destructive alter-ego.

Jen, on the other hand, is unaffected by the changes in the same manner that Bruce was. She is not only cognizant in her Hulk form, but she also has control over when she changes. Jen struggles to accept her newfound talents, and the most of her story revolves on her desire to avoid She-Hulk becoming her defining attribute. She couldn't get away from it, no matter how hard she tried, as she was swiftly targeted by a variety of people.

Who Is She-Hulk?

Jennifer Walters, a successful lawyer who also happens to be Bruce Banner, nicknamed The Hulk's cousin, is the show's protagonist. Jen is involved in a vehicle accident, forcing her to pull the door open and liberate Bruce. As a result, she slices her arm open. She-Hulk is created when Bruce's blood combines with hers. After nearly harming a group of boys outside a bar shortly after, Banner prevents Jen from Hulking out and losing control by transporting her to a beach resort to help her develop her strength. He wants to show her the skills of being a Hulk.

How She-Hulk Was Created?

The superhero genre is built on the idea of reinvention. To remain relevant to a new generation of readers, these figures must evolve - in both significant and subtle ways - every few decades. However, some superheroes have a greater history of reinventing themselves than others. For example, She-Hulk from Marvel is essentially a gender-flipped version of her more well-known male counterpart. She is a fresh take on a well-worn model by her very nature.

However, She-Hulk swiftly moved above her unoriginal origins after making her debut in 1980 and became a captivating figure in her own way. Jennifer Walters, a lawyer, is a demure wallflower who can morph into a green-skinned, rage-powered giant like her cousin Bruce Banner, but unlike him, she keeps her intelligence and pleasant disposition.

It's a delightful revision of the conventional Hulk recipe, but that's not where the innovation ends. Over the past 42 years, She-position Hulk's and function within the Marvel Universe have seen several changes. She has now been a member of the Fantastic Four, served as an Avenger, and even worked for the celestials, who resemble gods. Change is essentially the only thing that stays the same in She-fictional Hulk's life.

Easter Eggs in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

The first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law contains a lot of MCU connections, and the majority of them are woven in by Bruce filling in some Phase 3 blanks for us. We learn that during the Blip, he worked on fusing the Hulk and Banner to create Smart Hulk in the Stark-built bunker in Mexico, where he also used to hang out with Tony and drink as Tony griped about Steve Rogers.

When describing how he was historically able to go from Banner to the Hulk and back again, Bruce makes reference to his origin tale as Edward Norton and various scenes from The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also cites his two years, completely hulked-out stay on Sakaar, but we still don't know what the inhabitants of The Grandmaster's home planet want from him this time. We also learn that Steve Rogers did not actually “die” a virgin.

Reception of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

Variety's Caroline Framke said in her review that the show was especially in Maslany's skillful hands, it is amusing enough as it jumps from one hijink to the next. But She-Hulk also exhibits an unsteady balancing act that requires more time than it probably has to find its own rhythm because of its responsibilities to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, a significantly smaller budget than its film peers, and attempts to inject Jen's story with out-of-date #girlboss energy.

She also said that it was an unquestionably successful approach to make the She-Hulk experience dramatically, urgently different from that of Hulk's to have Walters be able to control She-Hulk more than Banner did with Hulk due to her daily experiences as a woman keeping her emotions in check.

Framke wished for a more innovative approach to the fourth-wall breaking, which has become more prevalent in media since Byrne introduced it to the character in the comics back in the 1980s. She also criticized the story’s treatment of Walters’ job and dating life as well as the series’ costumes as being “several steps out of date.” Watch free online TV.
